Three cars were idling when Joe Charles arrived at Sovereign Bank Stadium Saturday morning.

Die-hard York Revolution fans.

"It was so cold," Charles said. "It's good to see our fans that excited for our season to start."

The director of ticketing for the Revs, Charles wasn't sure what to expect when the Revolution opened their box office Saturday morning for a special one-day ticket sale.

Last year when they opened up their doors prior to the holidays, they had a surge of fans lined up waiting to buy tickets.

Many fans learned from that and opted to take a more steady approach this year, with the exception of a few die hards.

With nearly 20 minutes until the doors opened for the 10 a.m. sale, a line of fans waited to get inside the box office to snap up tickets.

"Last year every one was here early, and it was slow throughout the day," Charles said. "This year we had a good rush early, and it's kind of been a steady flow since then."

Saturday was the only day until April for fans to buy tickets to any of York's 70-regular season games, including opening day.

Season ticket packages are available any time.

"We're on par to last year," Charles said about ticket sales. "A lot of people are buying opening day tickets, but we've also sold a lot of tickets for just regular season games and some of the special event games."

There is no set date for regular season tickets to go on sale, but Charles said it will probably coincide with the Revolution's

Spring Training, which will be held in York for the first time in the team's short history, beginning April 13.

"It's exciting," Charles said. "All the fans who have come out today have been really excited to get their tickets. They're ready for the season to start up again."

Revolution pitcher Corey Thurman shared Charles' enthusiasm.

Thurman joined teammate Jason Aspito for the event Saturday afternoon, signing autographs for a steady stream of fans who came into the First Cap Team Store.

"It's winter and the fans are already thinking about the start of baseball season," Thurman said. "That's good to see."

Steve Trout of West York wasn't in line early but stopped into the Revolution box office Saturday afternoon.

He missed out on the event last year but made sure to get into the city to pick up tickets early this year.

"I saw the advertisement and thought it would be a good idea to come in and pick some up for Christmas gifts," Trout said.

He made sure to get one for himself as well.

While fans won't be able to buy tickets for another four months, they can still stop by the York Revolution box office and grab a piece of team history.

The York Revolution are selling authentic game-worn jerseys from last season, and a variety of styles are included, including the home white Revolution jerseys and the alternative red Revolution style jerseys.

For last minute shoppers, the First Cap Team Store will be host an open house with extended hours next weekend.
