York was recently named a "Playful City" for the second time by KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit aimed at bringing play into children's lives.

The 93 cities named "demonstrated creative commitments to the cause of play in the areas of quantity, quality and access," according to a news release from KaBOOM. York also received the designation in 2008.

The city will be working with Downtown Inc. to include play in First Friday events, according to the release, and work with other community organizations to promote free play opportunities.

The city's second annual Day of Play will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at Lincoln Park.

The event, sponsored by Bring on Play, will also include the dedication of the newly renovated park at 11 a.m. That day, the group will announce the next park that will be renovated.
