Chad Lynn Yingling, 30, of Gettysburg, faces charges of corruption of minors, according to a news release sent Wednesday by Pennsylvania State Police in Gettysburg.
The misdemeanor charges against Yingling were filed on Tuesday, but as of Wednesday, the accompanying paperwork had not yet been signed by a district judge nor released to the public.
Superintendent Donald Wills of the Littlestown Area School District said Yingling resigned his teaching position in March 2007.
The charges against Yingling stem an alleged relationship he had with a 16-year-old girl in 2006 and 2007. Trooper George Kelly, who filed the charges, said state police began to investigate the case after being contacted by the school district over the district's concerns about inappropriate relationships between current or former students and faculty.
Wills said the investigation began recently, but declined to explain why the investigation trailed the alleged incidents by so long. He said the district fully cooperated with the investigation.
Kelly would not say whether the girl was a student of Yingling's. He said that both Yingling and the student admitted the relationship to police.
