After all, those personalities were in the news over the last several months.
But nope.
"Zoro is the surprise number one costume this year," said Reck, a member of the National Costumes Association and owner of Make Believin' in York Township. "I think I have at least 11 of those out."
Reck said the following are also popular this year:
--- Military and police uniforms for young women.
--- Accessories.
"A lot of people are pinching pennies, using what they have," Reck said. Those folks are buying cat ears, tails, capes and other items to embellish homemade costumes.
--- Girls are into bugs, bees, butterflies and spiders, she
--- The traditional pirate is still a favorite among guys.
--- Sesame Street and Muppets released a new line of licensed costumes this year including Oscar the Grouch in a garbage can, Elmo, Bert and Ernie.
--- 1980's big hair rock bands are in.
--- Hookers and pimps are out.
What will Reck be for Halloween?
"A zombie. I'll need no make-up," she said of ending an exhausting work season. Her shop sells and rents thousands of costumes and accessories.
Business over the last several days has been hectic, she said. "Everybody has waited until the last minute."
