PITTSBURGH—Federal prosecutors say four people conspired to pass counterfeit money at various Pittsburgh-area businesses last year.

In related, but separate, indictments, prosecutors charged 27-year-old Edward Achille of Pittsburgh, 31-year-old Amber Johnston of Pittsburgh, 28-year-old Mark Morton of Cranberry Township, and 32-year-old Mailinh Karner of Cranberry Township with conspiracy to pass counterfeit currency.

Prosecutors say Achille, Johnston and Morton passed counterfeit $100 bills in May and June. The bills were used at a Pittsburgh bar, a suburban ice cream store and Kennywood amusement park.

Karner is accused of taking part in a conspiracy in which someone else manufactured the bills.

Listed phone numbers for all four defendants could not immediately be found Wednesday.
