DERRY, Pa.—Two men are dead after a van and a car collided head-on in Westmoreland County.

Authorities say a volunteer firefighter also was injured when his fire truck heading to the accident hit a sport utility vehicle that was making a U-turn to get away from traffic.

State police say the head-on collision happened Friday afternoon along Route 22 in Derry Township when a van hit a car. Both men died at the scene. Their names were not immediately released.

Roy Wagner of Cranberry Township says he was making a U-turn to avoid the wreckage when he saw the fire truck at the last minute.

A firefighter was airlifted to a hospital.
