Tots tumbled on mats, slid down slides and batted at bubbles Friday morning during Gymboree classes in Springettsbury Township.

Their moms, while keeping watchful eyes on the little ones, paused to answer questions about motherhood. Here are some of their thoughts just before Mother's Day:

What's your favorite mom moment?

"The first time you hold them in your arms . . . and every day after that," said Chris Reichart, of Manchester Township. She's mom to Annie, 8, and Abby, 18 months.

"I really like it when she does a new thing for the first time. . . . When she first ate table food, I thought that was cool," said Amanda Markey, of her daughter Jordan, who will turn 1 on Mother's Day. The

York Township mom is expecting another baby, due Monday.

"Going in (her room) in the morning and seeing her there, so excited to see me. It's a great way to start your day," said Manchester Township resident Courtney Dennis, mother of 18-month-old Rowan.

"Just to see them grow up and be a mom themselves," said Karen Kronk of Allentown. She visited Gymboree with her daughter Shannin Pettigrew of Springettsbury Township and granddaughter Veah Pettigrew, 15 months old.

"When he gives you a hug and a kiss," Nicole King of Manchester Township said of her 17-month-old son, Everett. She's expecting another baby in June.

What's the best gift you could receive for Mother's Day?

"Always a handmade item," Reichart said. "They're better than anything."

"A massage, I could go for one of those," Markey said. "A day of pampering."

"To sleep in. I haven't slept in since she's been born," said Heather Moore of West Manchester Township. Her daughter, Chloe, is 14 months old.

"Probably just a family day. Time is so limited, just finding the time to spend together is the best," Pettigrew said.

"I was a teacher. . . . I would have the (students) make things for their moms. I can't wait for her to do that," said Kristen Cole of Windsor Township. Her daughter, Ayla, is 21 months old.

What does it take to be a good mom?

"Patience for sure . . . the ability to go without sleep and still be happy," Markey said.
"And time management. Sometimes it's hard to get out the door on time."

"A lot of patience and nurturing," Dennis said.

"Ketchup and pancake syrup," said Danyale Ridler, of Manchester Township. That's the only way to get 15-month-old Griffen to eat most things, she said.

"A good sense of humor. You've got to be able to laugh at yourself and your kids," said Heidi Thomas, a Gymboree teacher and mother of Isabella, 3, and Christopher, 9 weeks.
