June 6: Build a home
Volunteer to help build a Habitat home in Dover for a family who has a young child battling leukemia. Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers, experienced or not, who want to put their faith into action by hammering nails, cleaning and organizing or registering people on site daily or perhaps providing a meal or snack for the workers. June 7: Hoops leagues
Play summer basketball "Under the Lights" at Springettsbury Park. Leagues will be held mid-June through August. Age levels include grades three through 12. Call 757-1643 for details.

June 8: Jazz at Farquhar
Enjoy a free jazz concert featuring the Jeff Stabley Quartet in the Farquhar Park bandstand from 2 to 4 p.m. today. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket and a picnic if you wish.
June 9: Get reading

June 10: Lunchtime concerts
Box Lunch Revue is a free summertime concert series every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through Aug. 28 in the courtyard at Cherry Lane in York. For details about Box Lunch Revue or any York city special event, call 849-2217 or visit www.yorkcity.org.

June 11: Boating after dark
Take a moonlight boat ride at Kain Park in the Lake Redman activity area. Starting at 8:30 p.m., explore nocturnal life along the water. After boating, the participants will be treated to ice cream sundaes and other refreshments. Cost is $20 per couple if using a county-owned boat; $15 per couple if using a private boat. June 12: Strawberry festival
The Brunswick at Longstown, 2830 Carol Road in Springettsbury Township, will host a Strawberry Festival from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight. The Emigsville Band performs. June 13: Buy local produce
Scarecrow Farm, 2178 Orwig Road in Stewartstown, holds a farm market every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October featuring flowers and seasonal produce. The farm will also host a flea market June 15.
Also, today through June 15, take in the Balloon Festival at John C. Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road in East Manchester Township. Come see 30 balloons and learn how they work, purchase crafts, eat, take a helicopter ride and more. Cost is $10 per car. Proceeds benefit York County Parks.
June 14: Head to 'boot camp'
From 9 to 10:30 a.m. today, Leader Boot Camp, a military-inspired circuit workout, will be held at Leader Health & Fitness, 2500 S. George St., York Township. Members and non-members ages 6 to adult are welcome. All fitness levels may participate. Bring a towel, water and lots of energy. This event is free and will be held outside, weather-permitting. June 15: Seniors compete
York County Senior Games run today through June 22. The games feature York County residents 50 and older in more than 60 events at 22 different sites throughout York County. New events this year are Trap Shooting, 9-Hole Golf, Doubles Horseshoes and Frisbee Golf. Most events will be broken down into age and gender groups. Registration is $8. June 16: Ride in moonlight
Take a moonlight bike ride along the rail trail in the Seven Valleys parking area beginning at 8:30 p.m. This event includes folklore and railroad stories. Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the ride. Cost is $5; free for kids younger than 5.
June 17: 'Young at Heart'
Go on the "Young at Heart Hike" from 9 to 11 a.m. at John C. Rudy County Park in East Manchester Township. Take a leisurely hike with seniors to study nature and learn some local historic facts. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends and get some exercise.
June 18: Civil War panel
York Civil War Roundtable "Burning of the Wrightsville Bridge," led by Thomas L. Schaefer, will be 7 p.m. in the York County Heritage Trust meeting hall, 250 E. Market St., York.

June 19: Seniors' art show
The fifth annual York County Senior Citizens Art Show will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Central York High School, 775 Marion Road in Springettsbury Township. The show features work from York County artists who are 60 or older.
June 20: Drive-in movie
Friendship Community Church, 3380 Fox Run Road in Dover Township, will hold a free drive-in movie night at 9 tonight and tomorrow night. The community is welcome to come to the church ball field to watch a recent movie on a 40-foot-high screen. For details, call 779-0400.
June 21: Irish celebration
The eighth annual Penn-Mar Irish Festival is 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at The Markets at Shrewsbury, 12025 Susquehanna Trail, Shrewsbury Township. The festival features traditional and contemporary live Irish music, Irish dancers, Irish food, children's activities, door prizes and a variety of vendors offering Irish goods, jewelry, music, books, pottery and more. Tickets at the gate are $7 for those 13 and older. Proceeds benefit Penn-Mar Organization, a nonprofit agency that provides support services to families and individuals with disabilities or human-service needs throughout southern York County and northern Baltimore County, Md. June 22: Summer sounds
Springettsbury Township presents the Sounds of Summer Concert Series at 7 p.m. Sundays and Wednesdays through Aug. 10 at the Springettsbury Township Park amphitheater, 1501 Mount Zion Road in the township. Concerts are held rain or shine. But if severe weather strikes, the concerts might be moved to Central York Middle School, 1950 North Hills Road. June 23: Tennis lessons
Tennis for Kids, which enrolled more than 1,300 children last summer, will launch its 18th season today. The free, five-week award-winning program typically attracts children 8 to 16 years old from York and Adams counties. Parents or guardians may enroll children from 9 to 11 a.m. today at any of the following locations: Farquhar Park, Penn Park, Dover Area High School, Dallastown Area High School, Jacobus Park, Loganville Park, Springfield Park, Hellam Recreation Complex, Red Lion Area High School, South Western High School, West York Area High School, Stewartstown Community Park, Spring Grove Area Middle School, Northeastern High School, York Suburban middle and high schools, Penn State York, Springettsbury Recreation Complex, New Oxford High School and Littlestown High School. Registrations will be accepted at most locations 9 to 11 a.m. any Monday, Wednesday or Friday through July 18. Northeastern will operate Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. At Stewartstown and Littlestown, the schedule will be each weekday June 23 through July 11. There will be no instruction July 4.
June 24: Discover nature
Nature Discovery Program III, today through Friday, allows children 9 to 12 years old to visit Nixon, Kain and Rudy county parks for a variety of activities, including hiking, a nature study and more. Cost is $95. Call 840-7440 to register.
June 25: Plenty of history
The York Civil War Roundtable panel discussion, "York during the Confederate occupation, 1863," will be 7 p.m. at the York County Heritage Trust meeting hall, 250 E. June 26: Support group
M.O.M.Y., Mothers of Multiples York, is a nonprofit support group that specializes in helping expectant mothers, current mothers of multiple, female guardians of multiples or adopted mothers of "virtual multiples." June 27: Taste the brews
The York County Heritage Trust presents the 11th annual Micro Brew Festival from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St., York. Ticket prices are $25 for trust members, $30 for nonmembers (in advance) and $35 at the door. Price includes free souvenir tasting glass and Memphis Blues barbecue food. June 28: See reptiles
Have a "reptile experience" at Nixon Park, 5922 Nixon Drive in Springfield Township, from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m. Park volunteer Bill Styer will show specimens ranging in age from a young gator to a very large python.
June 29: Hear Army band
From 2 to 4 p.m., a free concert will take place in the Farquhar Park bandstand in York. The Volunteers, the show band of the U.S. Army Field Band, will perform popular songs of the 1960s through the 1990s. For all concerts, seating is on the lawn. Bring your own lawn chairs or blanket and a picnic if you wish.
Also today at 8 a.m., "Y-Tri," the fourth annual YWCA Ladies' Sprint Triathlon (500-yard pool swim, 15-mile bike ride and 5K run) for individuals and teams of three, begins at York College's Grumbacher Sports and Fitness Center. June 30: Carnival time
