BAE Systems in West Manchester Township has received a $53 million contract from the Department of Defense to build 40 MRAP vehicles for the United States Marine Corps.

MRAPs, or Mine-Resistant, Ambush-Protected vehicles, have a
V-shaped hull that deflects the blasts of roadside bombs and other improvised explosive devices.

Work is scheduled to be completed in California, Ohio and West Manchester Township by February 2009.
