CHARLESTON, W.Va.—West Virginia's racetracks are asking the Lottery Commission to give them a break from state taxes on free slots games they want to offer to gamblers.

Lobbyists and track representatives told the commission Wednesday that they want to distribute coupons for free slots games to lure gamblers away from Pennsylvania.

Ameet Patel with Charles Town Races & Slots says Pennsylvania slot machine operators have sent about $80 million in coupons to people in several states.

West Virginia collects 60 percent of all slot machine proceeds. The racetracks say removing the tax from the free games would level the playing field.
