Inconsistent customer traffic contributed to disappointing sales in late April at The Bon-Ton Stores.
The Springettsbury Township-based retailer reported Thursday that comparable-store sales for the four weeks ended May 3 decreased 0.9 percent from the same time last year.
Comparable-store sales refer to sales at stores open at least a year.
Total sales for April decreased 1.3 percent to $209.2 million, compared with $211.9 million for the prior-year period.
The Bon-Ton will host a conference call at 10 a.m. May 22 to discuss its first-quarter results.
