When children step into the vibrant backyard of Bonham House in York from July 21 to 24, they will embark on a historic adventure, traveling back in time to the 1860s and experiencing life during the American Civil War and the Victorian era through the York County Heritage Trust's "Hoopskirts & Hardtack" summer camp.

Children 8 to 12 years old will learn about life for the average Civil War soldier and civilians on the home front, as well as customs of the Victorian era.

Throughout the week, children will participate in hands-on educational activities, tour the Trust's museums and historic sites, enjoy Civil War and Victorian-era games and crafts, and hit the road as they travel to Gettysburg National Military Park on a field trip.

This unique experience is $125 for Trust members and $150 for nonmembers. Registration is required. For details, contact Daniel Roe, coordinator of living history, at 845-2951 or droe@yorkheritage.org .
