City police were able to arrest Harvey Lorenzo Jones Jr. after finally getting him to the ground and holding a Taser between his shoulder blades, according to court records.
Police said Jones had led them on a chase through the city both by car and on foot.
Jones, 37, of the 100 block of North George Street, was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving under the influence, unsafe driving, possession of marijuana, driving under suspension and disorderly conduct.
He is being held at York County Prison on $20,000 bail.
The incident began just before 11 p.m. Monday, when police attempted to pull over a green Cadillac at Cleveland Avenue and Cottage Place. After a few blocks, the car stopped on West Boundary Avenue, and the driver jumped out and began running.
Police chased the driver -- later identified as Jones -- until he was finally caught in the 100 block of West Maple Street.
Officer Matthew Tunall placed a Taser between Jones' shoulder blades and repeatedly ordered him to place his hands behind him so he could be handcuffed or he would be tased, according to a criminal complaint. Jones complied, police said.
Jones had a strong odor of alcohol on him, and police found an open 16-ounce can of Steel Reserve Beer in the car in the center console cup holder,
This is the second time in three months that Jones was accused of running from police. Jones was also arrested in August and charged with escape, providing false identification to law enforcement and driving under suspension.
Police said Jones was seen driving a van on South Pershing Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Aug. 13 and determined the driver had multiple arrest warrants in York County.
Once stopped, he gave police a false name, according to court records. When advised he had warrants, Jones told police he was just released from prison, and the warrants were taken care of.
As police were looking in his van, Jones ran away down the railroad tracks, according to court records.
Both cases are pending before York County District Justice Ronald Haskell Jr.
