The York City Council debated Tuesday whether $2,000 in 2010 grant funding should go to two youth organizations or a city neighborhood group that helps needy families.
In the 2010 Action Plan, which designates how federal Community Development Block Grant money will be spent, $1,500 was allocated for the First Tee golf program for youths and $500 was slated for Wellington Youth Sports. Councilwoman Genevieve Ray suggested instead giving the money to the Northeast Neighborhood Association, a move that was eventually voted down 3-1.
The council passed the plan and the 2010-2014 Consolidated Plan, which outlines how the city will use federal grant dollars, with a 3-1 vote. Council Vice President Carol Hill-Evans dissented.
