Two local students will compete Friday for the title of "Best Student Driver" in Pennsylvania, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Michelle Gettle of the Northern School District and Michael Smith of the Northeastern School District will compete against other students from across the state at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel in Camp Hill.

The competition, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association, will have students progress through a series of driving, perceptual slide and written tests and a vehicle inspection to search for defects.

Gettle and Smith won in similar competitions held in PennDOT's District 8 in April.

The first, second and third place winners will receive $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 scholarships, respectively.
