A thief stole a golf cart from Sovereign Bank Stadium, where it was driven through the outfield and smashed through a locked gate before being abandoned, according to city police reports.

Someone walked through the main stadium entrance at 5 Brooks Robinson Way sometime overnight Wednesday and went into an unlocked groundskeeper area, where they located the Yamaha golf cart, police said.

The thieves smashed through the gate on Arch Street to get into the ballpark.

Around the time stadium officials reported the burglary Thursday morning, the cart was found and towed back to the stadium, police said.

The golf cart is valued at $4,500, police said.
