Jan 25, 2005 — 1716: Thomas Rutter builds the first iron furnace in the colony near Pottstown.

1718: William Penn dies in England. His wife, Hannah, manages the colony.

1720: The first Roman Catholic congregation is organized in Philadelphia. The first chapel was erected 13 years later.

1730: By this date, traders bring about 4,000 slaves to Pennsylvania, despite Quaker opposition to slavery.

1732: Coventry Forge in Chester County manufactures the first steel.

1732: Benjamin Franklin begins publishing Poor Richard's Almanack.
