ROSES: To recent honorees by the York County Rail Trail Authority: North York won the Government Leader Award; Kinsley Education Center and the Pennsylvania Bicycle Access Council shared the Trail Organization Award; Tom Brant won the Trail Champion Award.

THORNS: To Northwest Airlines pilots who were reportedly fiddling around with their laptops instead of flying their plane, overshooting their destination by 150 miles.
THORNS: To Neida Elizabeth Baez for her role in the death of her 2-year-old child, Darisabel, who police say was killed by her boyfriend. She pleaded guilty to third degree murder for failing to intervene and protect her child. She also agreed to testify against the man accused of killing Darisabel.
ROSES: To everyone who participated in York's Halloween Parade -- as well as parades in other local municipalities. Roses also to those who won awards at the parades.
THORNS: To Deshon M. Gibson, 18, of York for shooting at a Hellam Township Police officer while trying to elude capture in a remote area near the Susquehanna River. He was sentenced to 10 to 20 years.
ROSES: To Heather Barley of York Township for the jewelry and clothing she makes to help fund cancer research.
