Thanks to a strong showing in Franklin County, Richard Alloway II won the Republican nomination for the 33rd state Senate District.

He was running against Catherine Cresswell, who won York County by almost 100 votes; Jim Taylor; and Bob Curley.

The district's seat was left open when longtime Sen. Terry Punt, R-Franklin, said in January he will retire this year.

The district includes seven York County precincts as well as some precincts in other counties.
