MECHANICSBURG -- Driver Paul Miller gave car owner Danny Miller (no relation) a third consecutive trip to victory lane at Williams Grove Speedway on Saturday night by capturing the season-opening 20-lap super sportsman feature race.
Danny Miller had Danny Hager in his car last season. Hager steered the No. 55 to victory in the last two races held at the speedway in 2007.
"Amazing," Paul Miller said. "I can't believe it. This is such a good ride and I am proud to get in back to victory lane."
Paul Miller started on the pole spot and proceeded to dominate the field over the next 10 miles, holding off several challenges from numerous drivers, including an attempt by defending tour and track champion Frankie Herr.
Herr settled for the second position, followed by Scott Dellinger, Rick Barr and Carmen Perigo Jr.
Miller beat Dellinger at the start of the race and had the lead as the race was slowed after the second lap. Steve Fannasy spun his car in the first turn.
Running sixth at the time of the caution, Herr basted from sixth to fourth on the restart, then moved into third after a second caution flag came out after the third lap was completed.
A four-car crash on the backstretch on the seventh lap stopped the race. J.R. Fry tried to take evasive action to miss a slower car, but the two made contact. His car slide sideways near the bridge and flipped over several times before coming to a rest in front of the backstretch grandstand.
Herr took an unusual line to pass Dellinger for the runner-up spot on the restart. He drove to the outside and got the spot, but Miller commanded the final 13 laps.
"I knew the faster guys were coming, especially after that last red flag period," Paul Miller said. "I did what I had to do and that was to keep the car straight and out of any possible problem."
The win was Miller's second career victory at Williams Grove Speedway. He won a super sportsman race in 2006.
Heat races went to Gregg Foster, Miller and Herr. Fry won the consolation race.
Meanwhile, Tyler Armstrong dominated the 20-lap 358 late model feature race. Armstrong cruised to a convincing win over Gene Knaub, Mike Walls, Jared Miller and Derrick Zirkle.
