Due to the helpful and watchful eye of Witch Watch patrols, children and families enjoyed a safe trick-or-treat night in Dallastown and Red Lion Saturday.
Volunteers helped with walking patrols to assure a safe night, said York Area Regional Police Sgt. Rod Varner.
The volunteers -- including 15 borough employees and family members and 30 Red Lion Area High School students -- were enlisted to help prevent crime and report any incidents to police, he said.
To help in the effort, organized by police Officer Peter Montgomery, members of the Leo Fire Co. in Red Lion and the Rescue Fire Co. in Dallastown manned major intersections to assure children could cross streets safety.
Varner said there were no problems reported to police.
Police plan to continue the program and hope to expand Witch Watch to other areas, he said.
