The gloomy part of the season may be in the past for the York Revolution.

With a 6-5 win over first-place Somerset on Sunday night in front of 3,878 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium, the Revolution took a 3-1 series win over the Patriots heading into a three-game series at Long Island.

The York offense came alive with 24 runs on the board in the four-game series, compared with just 10 runs in the previous five games leading up to the all-star break.

"They had a change in attitude coming back from the break," Revolution manager Chris Hoiles said. "I think we were refreshed a little bit, and offensively, it was a total change."

York ignited the scoring in the second inning when they put two runs on the board off of an RBI double from Matt Esquivel and an RBI single from Josh Johnson.

The Revs took a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning when clean-up man Tom Collaro drilled his seventh home run of the season over the left-field wall to knock in P.J Rose.

Rose finished 1-for-3.

York starter Corey Thurman was solid and held Somerset scoreless until the fifth, when designated hitter Josh Pressley hit a two-out solo shot over the left-field fence to cut the lead to three.

Matt Hagen walked and put a runner on base for Jeff Nettles, who hit the Somerset's second home run of the inning to put the score at 4-3. The inning was ended on an outstanding play by Esquivel, who robbed Teuris Olivares of a double when he played a ball off the outfield wall and threw a strike

to second to end the inning.

With a runner on first, York was able to gain a two-run cushion when Collaro picked up his third RBI of the day on a single to right.

The Revolution put the game-winner across the plate in the sixth. Esquivel began the inning with a single up the middle and stole second base to get in scoring position. Ryan Goleski then connected with a one-out single up the middle that scored Esquivel from second to put York up 6-3.

Somerset salvaged two runs off reliever Daryl Harang in the seventh. Mike Rodriguez led off the frame with a single and was moved to second on a walk by Pressley. Hagen followed with an RBI double to score Rodriguez. Nettles then drove a sacrifice fly to center to score Pressley, but reliever Chris Britton benefited from another sparkling defensive play when Goleski doubled up Hagen off of the sacrifice fly at third base to keep the Patriots behind by one.

Britton and Bob Zimmermann kept the Somerset bats quiet the rest of the way, with Zimmermann picking up the save.

Collaro led the way for the York offense, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Esquivel was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

"We've been waiting for things to come together all season," said Collaro. "I think with a few new guys and a good clubhouse, it looks like things are turning around."

Thurman improved to 3-3 this season with the win, going five innings with two strikeouts while surrendering three earned on six hits.

"We just need to continue what we're doing," said Hoiles. "Our pitchers are doing well, and we need to just need to score some runs and do what we did in the last four days."
