The York Revolution bats went silent for a second straight day Friday, losing 3-2 at Southern Maryland, in front of 3,167 fans at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Md.

The loss drops York to 2-2 in the second half, while the Blue Crabs improve to 3-1.

York took advantage of Southern Maryland miscues to go up 2-0 in the second. Shea Hillenbrand was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Sandy Aracena reached on an error with one out, putting runners at first and second.

Knuckleballer Joe Gannon then uncorked a wild pitch, moving both runners up a base. That was followed by a passed ball that brought Hillenbrand across with the game's first run. Gannon then threw another wild pitch, as Aracena came home with the second run.

Frank Castillo carried a shutout through four, but the Blue Crabs got on the board with a run in the fifth. James Shanks led off with a triple to right field and scored as Chris Maples followed with an RBI single to left to make it a 2-1 game.

Southern Maryland then took the lead for good in the sixth. Maples picked up another RBI single with a groundball up the middle. Brandon Ketron then drove home the eventual winner on a squeeze play. He was tagged out along the first base line, but Shanks scored to give the Crabs the 3-2 lead.

The Revs had a chance to tie against closer Derrick DePriest in the ninth. Hillenbrand reached on an error with one out, and Matt Padgett then blooped a single to right-center, moving Hillenbrand to third base as

the tying run. But DePriest came back to strike out the next two to end the game.

York also had a chance in the fourth with two hits, but Hillenbrand was thrown out trying to score at home plate for the second out, and Matt Esquivel crushed a ball right at right fielder John Ramistella for the final out, stranding runners at first and second.

The Revs managed just four hits in the game, after mustering only six hits in Thursday's contest. The top four in the Revolution lineup were a combined 0-for-14.
