In yet another slugfest at Sovereign Bank Stadium, Thursday's game saw two position players pitch for York as the Revolution and Somerset Patriots bash out a combined 27 hits.
In fact, just two innings were completely scoreless.
But Somerset used a six-run fifth inning that saw the Patriots pound out four doubles and a three-run home run by Sean Smith to beat York, 17-6, in front of 4,210 fans.
"Right now, we're trying to piece together the bullpen," York manager Chris Hoiles said. "We swung the bats well at the beginning. We'll regroup and come back at it (today)."
The Patriots (6-6) broke a five-all tie by batting around in the fifth, sending nine batters to the plate. Three consecutive doubles by Brandon Larson, Josh Pressley (3-for-5) and Matt Hagen (4-for-6) started the inning. Those three combined to go 10-for-17 in the game with five RBIs and nine runs scored.
After a fly out by Jason Belcher, David Housel drilled a two-bagger of his own to right-center field, scoring Hagen with the Patriots' ninth run of the game.
Housel's double ended the night for Revs starter Aaron Myette, who went 41/3 innings and allowed nine runs on 10 hits.
"It wasn't anything specific," Myette said of the six-run fifth inning. "I wasn't really wild. I just left too many balls over the plate."
Following a walk to Gera Alvarez, Smith crushed Matt Trent's 1-0 offering into the playground area in left-center field for a three-run homer,
The Revs scored five runs in the first four innings to tie the game at five going into the
fifth, but were outscored 12-1 in the final five innings.
The Revs, who as a team have been on a tear offensively since returning home on Monday, have scored 37 runs in their four games this week. On the flip side, they have allowed 44 runs in the same span.
"It's a big concern," Hoiles said of the runs given up. "It's just tough right now. We just need to get the bullpen back to a rested state."
York was paced by Chris Ashby, who went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs. Ashby and Jason Aspito were the position players used to pitch late in the game.
Ashby pitched two-thirds of inning, allowing just one hit in what was his 16th professional appearance on the mound. He came into Thursday's game with a career 4.00 ERA in 27 innings.
"It was fun, but at the same time, you're out there to get outs and not embarrass yourself and your team," Ashby said of his first time on the mound since 2004.
York (6-7) took a 4-1 lead after a three-run second inning that was capped by RBI singles from Matt Esquivel and Luis Taveras, and a sacrifice fly by Jose Enrique Cruz.
But the lead would be short-lived as the Patriots answered back in the fourth inning with four runs. Somerset loaded the bases with singles by Pressley and Hagen and a walk to Vito Chiaravalloti.
Then Alvarez -- who came into the game on a 1-for-42 slide -- ripped a base hit to left field, scoring both Pressley and Hagen.
A wild pitch by Myette moved Chiaravalloti and Alvarez to third and second, and both would score on a base hit by Smith.
The Patriots added to their lead in the late stages of the game, scoring three runs on two hits. Somerset used two doubles, four walks, a hit batsman and a sacrifice fly to score its three runs between the seventh and eighth innings.
Somerset got its final three runs in the last inning on four hits off of Aspito.
