Player of the year
Katie Holtzapple, Spring Grove: Holtzapple stood out as a potent weapon on a loaded Rocket offense. The sophomore often teamed with Maggie Hoff to create a 1-2 punch that helped Spring Grove go unbeaten in league play after a season-opening loss to Dallastown. The Rockets narrowly edged the Wildcats by one point in the standings to win the Division I title.
Holtzapple ended the season with 19 goals and 14 assists, which coach Ashley Rohrbaugh credited to her willingness to take the shot.
Other coaches in the league took notice too. She was "always around the ball and the goal, and a threat to score at any time," said Dallastown coach Barry Barbush.
All-stars
Emily Abel, Spring Grove: The defensive stalwart helped the Rockets knock off defending YAIAA champion Susquehannock en route to their first league title. Abel helped out on offense too, with three goals and one assist.
Katie Austin, Dallastown: The double-threat sophomore was a talented defender and goal-scorer for the Wildcats, who narrowly missed the Division I title with a 13-2-1 record.
Lizz Bell, South Western: The junior forward/midfielder shined for a Mustang team that finished the season with one victory.
Brittany Dietz, William Penn: Dietz, a junior who kicked for the football team last season, was busy in goal for the winless Bearcats. Her highlights include 28 saves in a loss to South Western.
Alexis Lindo, Dallastown: The senior was a key defensive cog, leading a Wildcat defense that gave up just nine league goals. The four-year starter will continue her soccer career at Division I Stony Brook University.
Lauren Markle, New Oxford: Markle was a dangerous scoring threat for the Colonials' offense, registering multiple-goal games several times in the regular season.
Casey Morrison, Central York: The lone freshman on the list didn't go unnoticed by opposing coaches. Wilson coach Tim Fick, whose Bulldogs defeated the Panthers in the second round of District 3 Class AAA play, focused his defense on keeping Morrison from getting her dangerous foot on any corner kicks.
Emily Reimold, Susquehannock The forward used her great passing and shooting ability to help the Warriors to the regular-season Section 2 title and the first round of districts. This is her third time on the all-star list.
